Double Cleansing: Are You Really Getting Your Makeup Off?
Have you heard of double cleansing your face? Basically, you're cleansing your skin twice to get off all the dirt, grime, and makeup.
But it's the how that's important.
There are two schools of thought regarding the double cleanse. The first is the Korean double cleansing method.
With this approach, you first cleanse your skin with an oil-based cleanser or balm. It's then followed by a water-based cleanser that's a gel or foam. A whole lotta people love this method!
Me? I'm more of a fan of the second method because it's a reverse of the Korean method. Let me explain.
With the Korean method, your initial cleanse starts with a large molecular cleanser, an oil or balm. Then it's followed by a smaller molecular cleanser, water-based.
Personally, I think that's backwards. Think about it.
Cleansing with oil is starting with a large molecule cleanser, which can't be as thorough because the molecules are too big. AND it's going to leave behind a residue.
That means it's going to be much harder for your water-based cleanser to finish the job adequately.
Why would you want to start with a large molecule and finish with a small one? See my point? Your face just isn't going to get clean.
The Reverse Double Cleanse and Anti-Aging
Your face is a magnet for all things dirt.
From the makeup you apply in the morning to environmental factors like pollution, the sun's rays, and bacteria transfer every time you touch your face...
Girl, we're talking a stink bomb of dirt and grime!
Asking an oil-based cleanser to remove most of that stuff with an initial cleanse is a prescription for blackheads, milia, and my favorite, unwanted lines and wrinkles. (I have enough of those, thank you.)
It's like trying to stuff a size 10 into a size 8 pair of jeans! That's why I like to reverse the process.
The first product I want touching my skin must contain ingredients that remove and
repair. Because my skin is older and a bit drier, I have two go-to cleansing products. The first one is goat's milk soap.
It's got alpha hydroxy acids which exfoliate and hydrate the skin. But it's also got vitamins and minerals, and it's super gentle.
Another great product I like to use is from the Botnia line.
Jewell's Naturals carries the Renewing Face Wash and Gentle Cleanser. Both are excellent!
But my go-to in this line is the Renewing Face Wash because it has hyaluronic acid (super plumping!), extracts of goldenseal, green tea and arnica for reducing inflammation, and a potent supply of vitamins and minerals.
The Renewing Face Wash is an excellent anti-aging cleanser, and it does not strip the skin. Your face feels really clean. I love it!
Once I've done the initial cleanse, then I reach for MŪN's Akwi Purifying Cleanser.
Oh my! I never thought I could fall in love with a skin care cleanser, but seriously, I could marry this one.
Akwi is so creamy, it makes me think of satin sheets. But it isn't lightweight in the cleansing department.
Using natural ingredients like:
Castor Oil
Nutrient dense Argan Oil
Camellia Seed Oil as an antioxidant
This gentle cleanser is a powerful detoxifier, removing even MORE makeup and dirt.
I'm especially amazed at how much more eye make up comes off with this product.
And your skin feels incredibly soft!
So between the Botnia Renewing Face Wash and Akwi, I'm here to tell you that your skin feels fantastic and it glows!
The Challenge: Korean Double Cleansing vs Reverse Double Cleansing
BUT I wanted to make sure that my love for these two products wasn't totally biased. So I did a test. I encourage you to do the same.
I used my own method of double cleansing first.
As you can see on the right, the amount of dirt, makeup, and grime that's removed is pretty darn impressive!
So what about the popular double cleanse method?
The next night, I used Argan oil to clean my skin for the first round.
I followed it up with rose hips oil because the molecules are very small in this oil.
Rose hips is used to make retinol, which reduces acne, as well as fine lines and wrinkles.
As you can see, it too removed dirt and makeup. And my skin felt so incredibly soft.
Then I thought....Hmmmm...Let's just see HOW clean my skin really is.
So, after I finished the Korean cleansing, I did the reverse method.
Holy smokes! Do you see what I see?
This is AFTER I cleansed my skin with the popular Korean method.
Look at that!
More skin impurities were removed. As far as I'm concerned, it's a no-brainer to start with a cleanser with smaller molecules.
And it's a method that works well for any skin type or age.
That's what I love about cleansing my skin this way. You can choose two types of cleansers to address the multiple challenges of your skin.
From teens with acne to the mature woman, tailor it for you! I encourage you to try this test yourself and let me know the results.
In the meantime, come into Jewell's Naturals and demo the products. That's what I did. You'll love the products and the compliments you get on your skin!
